What Is Agentic Engineering?

A practical definition of agentic engineering for operators evaluating AI systems.

Agentic engineering is the practice of designing AI systems that can use tools, preserve context, follow operating boundaries, and escalate to humans when the work needs judgment.

The useful question is not whether an agent can complete a demo. The useful question is whether the surrounding workflow makes the agent reliable enough to reduce real operational drag.

That means defining roles, tool access, memory, observability, fallback paths, and review checkpoints before giving the system production responsibility.
